High chance of a White Christmas for the UK
Snow is on the way and Mid-December could see some significant snow falls.
According to the MetOffice there is a 20% chance of a colder Winter for 2009/2010 but long range weather forecasting seems to be a skill the metoffice is yet to master so personally I refer to 'TheWeatherOutlook.com' website as they seem consistantly right when it comes to long range forecasting. As well as a colder winter it also looks like we are going to have a White Christmas in all parts of the UK. So get your chloches in place and check all the veg netting, batten down the hatches and prepare for a proper old fashoned Dickensian Christmas.
Press Release:
UK winter weather forecast 2009/10
TheWeatherOutlook UK winter weather forecast 2009/10
The winter is expected to be slightly colder than average, with a high risk of widespread snowfall, according to the TheWeatherOutlook long range forecast. Brian Gaze for TheWeatherOutlook said, "We are expecting temperatures during the December to February period to be below average with the prospect of significant snowfall affecting most of Britain at times."
Many winters during the last 20 years have been mild and largely snowless. Last winter broke the trend with below average temperatures during the 3 month period and heavy snowfalls affecting much of the country. Past records suggest that colder winters tend to come in clusters, with the 1960s and 1980s providing examples of this.
