Happy Bonfire night!

For everyone outside of the UK who thinks I've gone mad celebrating a garden task, I haven't.

 November the 5th is the date the UK celebrates the discovery of the plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605. So for 400 years we have been celebrating the discovery of the plot to kill the King James I (of England & VI Scotland), by lighting fires and setting off fireworks. What a happy coincidence it is that this is the time of the year when bonfires can be used to clear up the garden rubbish and plants which cannot be composted. Tonight I will be using this very excuse to have a small fire to burn the tomato plants from the greenhouse and a few old pea sticks. As always I will check the fire for any Hedgehogs before I light it, although I have never seen any nesting to date. Which is a great shame as Hedgehogs are brilliant for getting rid of slugs and snails. That has just reminded me I was going to find a way to encourage Hedgehogs into the garden and build a house for them to live in.

This week has been a quiet one with the weather being so troublesome. Digging has stopped as the ground is too sticky. and most of the removal of dead plant material is finished. Hence the need for a bonfire. So this weekend I will be continuing with the cleaning of the tools and the scrubbing of the greenhouse. Also there will be plenty of planning going on in the evenings for next years planting. That is it for this week, sorry it's so short but I must dash.
