Rain, rain go away....

Thanks to all the rain we've been having I have now finished all of the 'indoor' jobs and I'm now waiting for a few dry days so I can spread the last of the manure on the allotments.

Sheep and Harvesting

What a week it has been, busy, busy, busy. Non stop with both the garden and the animals. Firstly the broody hen was joined by another broody hen, and 24 hours later one of the eggs hatched. The chick immediately assumed the new broody hen was it's mother and she stopped being broody and got off the old eggs. So the original broody hen is still sitting on loads of eggs which haven't hatched yet, whilst the newcomer is off with one of her brood. What's worse is both broody hens are Light Sussex, and the chick is a Blue Maran. Hen's are so daft!

Bantams and Brassicas

I have come to realize I have chicken envy. I have eight perfectly good full sized chickens which lay six eggs a day in summer. Yet I find myself wanting to get some Bantams.

What a busy week it's been, at last some rain has arrived to give me a break from the watering, and thankfully we only had some light drizzle compared to the rest of the country which was suffering with torrential rain.

It's no good, the salad bed is producing too much rocket I can't eat it all, so I am admitting defeat and will turn some of it in into Rocket Pesto, or 'Pesto di rucola' if you want it to sound more edible.
